During my cardiac arrest at age twenty-seven, my heart stopped for approximately four minutes and thirty seconds. By standard clinical neuroscience, within ten to twelve seconds of circulatory arrest, cortical EEG goes flat; cerebral hypoxia renders organized mental representations impossible.
